As of last Thursday, my S2000, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ....sold. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little sad to see it go. There isn't anything about it that I miss, but more the stuff I did in it; first autocross, first convertible experiences, etc.

I sold it for a good price. It definitely was a lesson in my own stubbornness. If I'd been less stubborn on price, I would've sold it back in August for a grand or so more. Either way, I near tripled what I had in it, so I'm very pleased. I'm not Tavarish, so I won't disclose the numbers.

Now to the fun part. With this and the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! sold, I'm on the hunt now for another car to make money off of.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Some of you who I've talked to already know that I've got a healthy lust for a Subaru WRX STi. It's definitely the top of the list, but I haven't found any in the surrounding area that I can fix and flip. Preferably an 05-07, but I'll take any year.

Kinja'd!!!

My second most wanted car is a C5 Corvette, thanks to Jayhawk Jake. There's definitely a high demand for Corvettes here in Kansas, but the number of broken Corvettes needing mechanical fix-up is almost nil.

So, for those of you who love to hunt through Craigslist like me, I've laid out the criteria:

Feel free to post craigslist links of anything you've found. I've been searching forever, but I'm sure there's things I've missed.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Budget of $15,000

350 radius of 67235 (Wichita, KS)

Blown engines, head gaskets, turbos and transmissions welcome

Zero or minimal body damage. I can buy replacement painted body parts, but I don't do body work.

Must be able to make 50-100% ROI.

Meaning a car for:

$15,000 car has to be able to be sold for $22,000-30,000.

$10,000 car has to be able to be sold for $15,000-20,000.

$5,000 car has to be able to be sold for $8,000-12,000

And so on.

Must be a car people want to buy (Excludes most Jaguars and Audis)

Reasonable miles (No more than 130,000)

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Personal Criteria:

No BMW's unless 335i or M cars.

No Audi's. Hard to work on. Personal preference.

Obviously, STI's and Corvettes are most welcome.

Anything with an LS motor welcome.

No rotaries unless FD RX7

Trucks & SUVs welcome

But sports cars preferred. The S2000 was my autocross car, so I'd like to buy something I can use for that again. Otherwise I have to autocross my Scion xB.

So here's basically a small list of cars and such the I generally look up due to their value and sellability.

WRX and STI.

Mitsubishi Evo

C5 Corvette

Jeep Wrangler

Toyota Tacoma (and various other mid-size pickups)

Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3

Cobra Mustangs

SS Camaros

Cadillac CTS-V

Mini Cooper S

Golf GTI and R32

Anything with a diesel

Any sort of unicorn that appeals to more than 20 people.

Now that we've covered all the rules, let the suggestions begin. I'm eager to hear.

If it were this easy everyone would be doing it. Every time I've sold something big with a big return it was a complete luck of the draw chance. It's just going to come down to timing.

Sold in the US, so a chance of finding one, but they're also starting to get to 25 years old if you want an import.

Exactly. My best deal came from a Saturn SW2 5-speed (unicorn). I found it when I was actually shopping for a Miata hardtop, but at $400 for an entire working car I had to. I replaced the rear struts, drove it all winter, and sold it six months later for enough to buy a Miata hardtop. Pure chance.

How about a Jeep Liberty CRD? This one seems priced quite low. No mention of what's wrong with it though.

If it was a manual, I'd consider it more. But I've heard few good things about the SMG.

What was his design idea? Primer black strip on the top of horrid BMW yellow?

No rotaries unless FD RX7

How about this 1994 RX-7 with 68k miles and change, what appears to be not too many modifications (I spot an intake, strut tower bar, some tint on the front marker lights, and possibly an underdrive pulley on the alternator), and BBS RG-R wheels with a $10k asking price?

You may be right, but I've done a lot of these and never failed yet. It's more timing on finding the car, but if I'm not searching constantly, I won't find it.

For a quick turnaround: - easy to get 2-3 times your investment on this one:

This one, too

And this one has some European flair...

Diesel truck?

Or BMW ?

Holy hell, I never expect to find good deals on AutoTrader. I wonder what it may or may not need.

Definitely calling that guy. Thanks man.

I've actually had pretty decent luck with AutoTrader over the years. Now that I think about it, all but 1 car I've owned I found on AutoTrader. In all cases, I've been looking for something relatively specific, and took a fair amount of time searching AutoTrader over and over again before I found what I wanted.

The only exception is my 135is which is also the only new car I've gotten (and it's a lease). I went through the USAA car buying service . I configured a car on the USAA site and my local BMW dealer got back to me with what was in their inventory. So that's 5 cars found on AutoTrader and 1 sorta through USAA.

And a red lower grill just for shits...

If you could get it for <$8k I'd say you could make a healthy flip. That color is by far the least desirable though.
